DESCRIPTION

Musgrave, started in 1876, is a family-run wholesaler, commanding an estimated 30% market share in the supermarket business in Ireland.

It oversees a total of 1.423 stores of which 1.024 are in Ireland, 319 in Northern Ireland and 80 in Spain.

In Ireland and Northern Ireland, they operate under six banners, they are:

  1. SuperValu (257 independently owned stores)
  2. Centra (537 convenience retail stores)
  3. Day Today (232)
  4. Daybreak (200)
  5. MACE (117 stores in Northern Ireland)
  6. Superquinn, a chain of fresh foods/upscale supermarkets around Dublin. In February 2014, Musgrave Group announced their decision to rebrand their 24 Superquinn stores as SuperValu

Musgrave operates also in Spain, under the banner Dialprix.

MACE and Daybreak operate as symbol group organizers, servicing local independent retailers.

Musgrave also operates 18 Musgrave MarketPlace Cash & Carry outlets in Ireland and 17 Dialsur outlets in Spain.

Some 78.6% of its Group sales comes from the two retail banners, SuperValu (€ 2.8 billion) and Centra (€ 1.8 billion).

In May 2015, Musgrave sold its UK division, Budgens & Londis retail brands, to Booker Group, for £40m.
