The original slaughterhouse was established by my grandfather in 1930. In the beginning, only soup hens were slaughtered there. After broiler chickens were introduced in the Netherlands, they were also included in the slaughter process. In the late 1980s, we decided to focus solely on the slaughtering of soup hens (dams). The company is currently run by the third generation of our family. We aspire to produce the best possible quality products and, to achieve this goal, have implemented a highly efficient and effective slaughter process, in which quality and freshness are safeguarded in every department. We are proud of having succeeded in expanding the company to achieve an annual slaughter volume of over 10 million animals. In order to maintain a firm grip on product quality and sales, we established an export company in 2001 called Remkes Food Products. We currently import large numbers of poultry products from around the world and export to more than 20 countries. In 2010, we developed a retail concept called Superhuhn for one of our most important markets – Germany. Product branding, recipes, consumer campaigns and advertising are used to familiarise consumers with our fantastic and fresh soup hens and the tremendous range of possibilities this product offers.
